Electric Aggregation – Next Steps?

Posted on: September 11th, 2023 by jhaddix

The South Lebanon City Council voted on September 7th, 2023, to enter into an electric aggregation agreement with Energy Harbor LLC to supply electric for the City’s first aggregation program. Energy Alliances, the City’s aggregation consultant, was able to negotiate a rate of 6.73¢ per kWh for the generation supply which is roughly 30% cheaper than Duke Energy’s default generation rate. For those residents that would like to play a roll in additional renewable energy, they can opt-in to a rate of 7.17¢ per kWh.

What are the next steps?

Energy Harbor will mail letters to eligible accounts the week of September 25th. The letter will have the City’s logo on the envelope and the letter.

If you receive a letter and want to be part of the program at 6.73¢ per kWh, you do not need to take any action and will be enrolled into the program when the opt-out window closes on October 16th. If you would like the 7.17¢ per kwh offer with the additional renewable energy component, then you need to call the number on the letter to opt-in.

Who will receive a letter?

Only accounts that fit the following criteria will receive a letter:

Residential Account:

  • Currently on Duke’s default generation supply. If you are currently with another supplier, you will not receive a letter.
  • Not on Duke’s Percentage of Income Plan (PIPP). This is not to be confused with Budget/Level billing. Those on Budget/level billing are still eligible.
  • Not a net metered account (aka, solar on your home)

Commercial Accounts:

Same criteria as residential accounts in addition too.

  • Commercial accounts that use less than 700,000 kWh annually.
  • Commercial accounts that are not listed as mercantile.

I do not fit the eligible criteria, what can I do?

If you are currently with another supplier and want to opt-in to the program, you can do so after September 25th. We suggest that you speak with your current supplier to understand if you have any termination fees before doing so.

Will anyone come to my door with the aggregation?

No one associated with the aggregation will ever come to your door and tell you that you need to sign up. If someone does come to your door and say they are with the aggregation, then they are misleading you.
